Contribute to Our Legal Fund

We need your help. We are looking into hiring a legal team to help us with our quest to stop construction at 2812 Voorhies Avenue. Even though every member of our group receives no compensation for all the work we are doing, we were unable to find a law firm with relevant experience to take on the project pro-bono.

Every dollar we receive from our supporters will go to our legal team. Our finances are open and transparent. We will gladly answer all your questions.

Here are some of the legal grounds opposition:

* Inappropriate Development that does not conform to existing zoning laws and will require a variance or changes in zoning

* The proposed construction grossly exceeds the programming needs of the mosque/community center

* Nuisance: defined as substantial and unreasonable interference with neighboring properties enjoyment and use of their land

* Proposed construction is detrimental to the stability and character of our residential development. Proposed construction is devastating to surrounding property values

* MAS is a political organization and is utilizing religion as a cloak for inappropriate development and to further their political clout

* 'Residents' reasonable concerns about MAS organization and the funding of the construction threaten the health, safety and welfare of the Sheepshead Bay community.
